AS/A2 Past Paper and Resource Thread
With all these exams coming up, I see many people constantly asking for the same papers again and again and again, and as you may probably have experienced, those of us trying to help are getting slightly frustrated with having to repeat the same stuff again and again to different people who can’t be bothered to read a few posts up to see whether they can find the answer to their question. Now I’ve decided to make a small and humble guide to the steps that you should take first before asking/posting for any papers at all.
1.If you’re looking for the newer papers, i.e. those that have just been done, like Jan 2008 papers by the time when this was written, or in summer asking for June 2008 papers, think about it again. Do you really think it is possible that exam boards are going to publish their exam material that fast after the exam? I don’t think so. The only way you are going to get them is if anybody can get any extra papers off their school and scan them and put them up. I really doubt anybody will go through all that hassle in order to post a few papers up on the net. So if anyone of us DO have that paper, don’t worry we WILL post it up, it’s not that we are trying to hide these papers from you, if nobody has it, then please don’t ask for it. Exam boards will release these papers 9 months after either the exams or the publishing of the results. It would help if everyone can upload and ask for papers using the same format. this makes it easer to search for these papers for other people.
The format used is as stated:
Paper Name
Exam Board
Subject
Module
Date
If you cannot state some of the points, please try to state as many of the others as possible.
2.Please do not ask for non-existing papers, i.e. Jan 1954 Physics.
3.Now looking for the papers, it will be a good idea to start looking for the papers using the search function. Write the name and year of the paper you’re looking for in the search box and chances are you are going to find a list of links that might lead you to the right paper. That saves time and effort for both you and us.
4.If you HAVE searched and still can’t find it, then chances are it might be on one of these pages,
a)http://www.freeexampapers.com/ (http://www.freeexampapers.com/) - This is a pretty good website, it contains many papers, not only limited to A level but also to many other resources and materials for other international exams. (Note: The website database is being shared around recently so be wary.)
b)http://www.thepaperbank.co.uk/ (http://www.thepaperbank.co.uk/) - this is also a good website contains papers from mixed boards for mixed subjects, the Physics and Chemistry are mainly OCR and the Maths are Edexcel if I remember correctly. The papers do have an annoying downloaded from the paperbank.co.uk watermark, however it doesn’t interfere with working on the paper. If that causes too much problem, then tough… :D
c)http://www.freewebs.com/sohanshah/ (http://www.freewebs.com/sohanshah/) - Sohan’s website as for now, it is still waiting to be updated in summer with the rest of the papers we got, and since now it’s only sohan who’s working on it, please do allow for some mistakes, we are all humans and can make mistakes, but as for now most of the maths papers are on that site if you need them. Hopefully we shall be able to merge two websites by the end of summer to make it a slightly bigger one, but it’s still pending. Sohan welcomes any volunteers to help maintain the website.
d)http://eiewebvip.edexcel.org.uk/pastpapers/ (http://eiewebvip.edexcel.org.uk/pastpapers/) - although it has many papers missing, most of them are the recent ones from the past three years. I expect this to improve in the following years. This website is for Edexcel Exams only.
e)http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gceasa.php (http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gceasa.php) - For AQA find your exam/qualification name and find a button to the left which reads assessment material, you should find again the past three years exam papers there.
f)http://www.ocr.org.uk/pastpapermaterials/ (http://www.ocr.org.uk/pastpapermaterials/) - pretty much straightforward site where again you can find most of the past year materials. However the annoying thing with OCR is that they sometimes have to remove some pictures due to copyright reasons.
g)http://www.mathspapers.co.uk/ (http://www.mathspapers.co.uk/) - has the more recent Maths Papers for Edexcel, AQA and OCR. Temperamental site at times and known to go offline randomly but viscerally brilliant.
h)http://www.alevelpapers.co.uk/index.php/edexcel/ (http://www.alevelpapers.co.uk/index.php/edexcel/) - contains links to some brilliant sites that hold Edexcel Past Papers for Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Maths. The links are old and are not updated any longer.
i)http://math.mdsalih.com/Data/index.php? (http://math.mdsalih.com/Data/index.php?) - Not updated any longer, but contains all Maths Past Papers for Edexcel upto and including the 2005 series.
j)http://www.blackpapers.info/ (http://www.blackpapers.info/) - Somewhat dodgy website.
k)http://www.ciepapers.110mb.com/ (http://www.ciepapers.110mb.com/) - Excellent CIE Paper resource. Very well maintained and regularly updated.
l)http://www.latifsnotes.co.nr/ (http://www.latifsnotes.co.nr/) - A website, no longer updated, containing past Nuffield Chemistry Papers.
m)http://www.biologylessons.net/index.html (http://www.biologylessons.net/index.html) - An AQA Biology B paper Bank. Contains some GCSE past papers and Olympiad papers too. Some very good revision notes can be found on here too.
n)http://pastpapers.org/ (http://pastpapers.org/) - A wide variety of past papers for sciences at A Level and at GCSE Level. The site is no longer updated.
o)http://onesourcepk.com/alevels.html (http://onesourcepk.com/alevels.html) - A Level and O Level papers for a diverse number of Edexcel subjects. The site is not regularly updated.
p)http://www.paked.net/GCE_A_level/gce_a_level.htm (http://www.paked.net/GCE_A_level/gce_a_level.htm) - Great link for CIE Past Papers.
q)http://www.brain.net.pk/~hivicky/cie/a-level/ (http://www.brain.net.pk/%7Ehivicky/cie/a-level/) - Another superb resource for CIE Past Papers from many subjects.
r)http://www.theexampapers.com/ (http://www.theexampapers.com/) - CBSE, ICSE and other boards' resources. Good site.
s)http://www.freeetextbooks.com/ (http://www.freeetextbooks.com/) - Constantly being updated with torrents of files from freeexampapers as a backup for their main server. They are looking for people to help them upload torrents.
5.If you still haven’t found what you’ve been looking for then ask for it on here nicely and please be specific about it. It’s no use saying, I need/WANT physics papers URGENTLY, because nobody is going to know what Board, year, paper…. So don’t be surprised if you get ignored or yelled at. Whereas if you were to ask in the following manner: “Does anybody have Edexcel physics Unit X mark scheme for year Y and session Z? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could upload it since I would really like to have that paper. Thank you” You will probably get what you need if somebody does have it, and you probably won’t get yelled at.
6.If you have asked and not received a reply, please do not post again and again and again for the same thing, you might get a warning to say the least. If nobody has responded it’s maybe because nobody has it, not because we’re all mean people who don’t wish to share, so please have some patience. It may be urgent, but you need to understand that if there is nothing there, then there is nothing, asking many times won’t make it appear out of nothing.
7.For CIE papers ask xinola, I am pretty sure he can get almost any of them new and old ones, up to O/N 2002 (this year, next year I’ll be able to get up to M/J 2003 and so on) He is willing to help, as long as you specify which paper session and subject. And also, it has to be after his 2008 exams, after those he’ll have plenty of time to help you.
8.Please remember that it is illegal to post and share Private Papers on SF. These include Solomon, Delphis, Elmwood etc. These Papers have limited distributions and posting these papers could lead to warnings or bans. Please remember that it is also illegal to post links to illegal third-party websites on SF. For Example: hosting the papers on a hosting website and then posting the following link. This too could result in warnings and bans. All illegal material found on SF will be immediately removed.
Thanks.
Xinola and Sohan
